Languages & Storytime in Geneva

There’s nothing my little monkeys and I love more than a good story, so we were over the moon to find out about a series of readings for children organized by Geneva’s public libraries around the theme of languages & communication called “Même pas la langue dans la poche….”.

Until the 31st of March 2013, parents and their little buttons will be able to visit some of Geneva’s bibliothèques municipales and take part in free workshops and multilingual storytimes in Russian, German, Italian, French, Spanish, Portuguese, English and Wolof.

Each session if free of charge and some require advance booking, so check below and reserve your place now !

If you’d like to take part, here’s some dates for your diary:

• 20th February 2013: Histoires en espagnol, story-telling in Spanish at the Bibliothèque des Minoteries from 4pm.

• 20th February 2013: Le langage des couleurs, creative painting workshop for kids aged 7 and older at the Bibliothèque des Eaux-Vives, from 4pm to 6pm. Places are limited so advance booking is required at 022 418 37 72.

• 20th February 2013: Autour du langage des smileys, creative workshop on how to make and communicate with smiley emoticons. From age 6 at the Bibliothèque des Pâquis at 3pm. Places are limited so advance booking is required at 022 418 37 52.

• 23rd February 2013: “Tesoros escondidos / hidden treasures / trésors cachés”, story-telling in Spanish, English and French from age 6 at the Bibliothèque de la Servette, starting at 3pm.

• 27th February 2013: Quand les mots se marient, reading for children (from age 4) at the Bibliothèque de la Servette from 2.30pm.

• 27th February 2013: Racconti italiani / contes en italien, storytime in Italian at the Bibliothèque des Eaux-Vives from 5pm. Recommened for kids aged 6 and older.

• 27th February 2013: Autour du langage des smileys, creative workshop on how to make and communicate with smiley emoticons. From age 6 at the Bibliothèque de la Cité (maison du conte) from 3pm. Places are limited so advance booking is required at 022 418 32 44.

• 2nd March 2013: Quand les mots s’emmêlent reading for children at the Bibliothèque de la Servette from 3pm.

• 2nd March 2013: Vitória, vitória era uma vez uma história / Victoire, victoire, il était une fois une histoire, bilingual story-telling in French and Portuguese at the Bibliothèque des Minoteries from 11 am.

• 6th March 2013: Contes tziganes du pays de Galles, bilingual story-telling in French and English. As the website says, it will be about “Tremendous tales of enchantment, mystery and danger, where ordinary people have to overcome incredible obstacles”. From age 8 at the Bibliothèque des Eaux-Vives, starting at 3pm.

• 6th March 2013: Paroles de tambours, a music show for all ages with Vincent Zanetti and the Djinn Djow ballet company at the Bibliothèque de la Cité (maison du conte) from 3pm.

• 8th March 2013: Signe avec moi, sign language workshop for 0 to 3 year-olds at the Bibliothèque de la Cité (maison du conte) from 10am to 11am. Places are limited so advance booking is required at 022 418 32 44.

• 8th March 2013: Initiation au langage cinématographique, a fun lesson that will teach children about cinematic language and the power of images in movies. From age 10 at the Bibliothèque des Minoteries, starting at 5.30pm.

• 9th March 2013: Salade russe au vinaigre balsamique, story-telling for children in Russian and Italian at the Bibliothèque de la Servette from 3pm.

• 13th March 2013: Le langage des couleurs, creative painting workshop for kids aged 7 and older at the Bibliothèque de la Cité, from 2pm to 4.30pm. Places are limited so advance booking is required at 022 418 32 44.

• 13th March 2013: Rencontre autour du langage des fleurs, a workshop about the language of flowers and their meaning. From age 8 at the Bibliothèque de la Jonction, starting at 3pm.

• 13th March 2013: Alice au pays des merveilles, an extraordinary reading of the classic “Alice in Wonderland” in six languages: Spanish, Italian, German, English, French and Wolof. An unmissable show for all the multilingual families in Geneva ! From age 8 at the Bibliothèque des Pâquis.

• 16th March 2013: Rencontre autour du langage des fleurs, a workshop about the language of flowers and their meaning. From age 8 at the Bibliothèque de la Servette, starting at 3pm.

• 20th March 2013: Ecrire les langues, calligraphy workshop from age 7 at the Bibliothèque des Minoteries from 3pm. Places are limited so advance booking is required at 022 418 37 42.

• 20th March 2013: Jeux de mots, fun and games with words from age 6 at the Bibliothèque de la Cité, starting at 3pm.

• 20th March 2013: Pannonia : contes et danses de Hongrie, tales and traditional folk dances from Hungary at the Bibliothèque de Saint-Jean, starting at 2pm. From age 7.
